Salvador Santana and Amnesty International in solidarity to support Universal Human Rights Day!

December 10th, 2009

In support of Universal Human Rights Day on December 10th, Salvador will give away a free, exclusive download of the track “Truth Fears, No Questions” from his forthcoming album Keyboard City. The track is available via download through Salvador’s website.

YOU can join Salvador in support of Universal Human Rights Day by participating in Amnesty International’s annual Global Write-a-thon, the world’s largest letter writing event!

This global action marking International Human Rights Day on December 10 brings people together just about anywhere – in classrooms, churches, workplaces, homes, and more – to make a difference in the lives of prisoners of conscience, human rights defenders, victims of torture and other individuals at risk.

Using the proven power of writing letters, they will pressure authorities to release those who have been unjustly imprisoned and to stop the torture and abuse of others.

Salvador has chosen to support the Women Of Athenco cause. To learn more about it, click here: Women of Athenco

You can join by doing the following:
1) Write letters to the actual women saying that you stand with them in solidarity.

2) Write a letter to the Governor in Mexico demanding accountability for these horrible crimes. This same letter gets copied to the Mexican Embassy in Washington DC.

All information on this case and addresses of where to send the letters can be found HERE.

You can learn more about Salvador Santana and other causes he supports HERE.

Download Truth Fears No Questions HERE.

Remember, we can all make a difference.

Thanks for the support.

Keyboard City Remix by Dan Deacon Featured on Pitchfork

December 2nd, 2009

from Pitchfork’s “Forkcast”:

OK, so the Hood Internet did a remix of this track “Keyboard City”, by Carlos Santana’s son Salvador. And GZA took a verse, on this remix. And then Dan Deacon came along and decided to remix the remix, because why not? So “Keyboard City” now has a hell of a lot more keyboards, and lot more everything else, too, in true Dan Deacon style, including an army of GZAs rapping over each other, disorienting blurs of synth, and, well, if your head isn’t swimming yet, just listen to this re-remix.

LA Times Feature – Salvador Santana Picks Up the Tune

November 24th, 2009

Salvador Santana got his first taste of the family business as a 4-year-old, when his father, guitar hero Carlos Santana, put him behind a drum kit to bash out some beats. He’s been making music ever since, now as a keyboardist and bandleader mingling pop, jazz and Latin sounds with a hip-hop sensibility.

“Music has always been there in my life,” said Santana, 26, sitting behind a vintage Fender Rhodes keyboard at a downtown studio. “At the same time, both my Mom and Dad have always encouraged me to be myself.”

That message is reflected in the soulful sounds of his upcoming release, “Keyboard City,” which glides from the early hip-hop vibe of “We Got Somethin’ ” to the warm down-tempo grooves of the album’s title song and the brooding funk of “Don’t Do It.” Not coincidentally, many tracks reflect some of the same organic energy of his Grammy-winning father’s best-known work of the ’60s and ’70s.

Salvador Santana Debuts Solo Album

November 9th, 2009

“On “Keyboard City,” Sal and Mark layer reedy, synth atmospherics, icy-cool electronic keys and a smooth-as-butter beat underneath Sal’s awesomely zonked-out Vocoder-heavy vocals” –RollingStone.com

Music is a burst of choices. Not only what note to play when and with what instrument, but whether to play a note at all. Salvador Santana, the 26-year-old keyboardist, vocalist, composer, and songwriter with strong Bay Area roots, knows what it means to navigate the infinite options of music. His 2008 project with the Salvador Santana Band–simply called SSB–pursued the scope of his ability. But for Santana, it wasn’t enough. He has no choice but to push himself further. Collaboration has always been the centerpiece of his creations, and this passion manifested his solo debut “Keyboard City” around the inspirations of a few legends: Bay Area MC/producer Del the Funky Homosapien who helped hone in Santana’s writing skills, Beastie Boy studio wizard Money Mark, and GZA of the Wu-Tang Clan. The legendary founder of the Wu-Tang Clan rallied support around the album by featuring himself on remix of the title track “Keyboard City” earlier this fall. The long anticipated debut hits the streets in February of 2010 followed by extensive touring with his keyboard-laden band featuring a three-person keyboard assault with Santana at the head.
